AOU Provides Research Support to Fellow Mokhele Stephen Moletsane for Doctoral Study on Governance and State-Owned Enterprises in Lesotho

Africa Open University has provided a targeted research support contribution of USD 200 to AOU Fellow Mokhele Stephen Moletsane to assist fieldwork and data collection for his doctoral research on the impact of unstable coalition governments on state-owned enterprises in Lesotho. The support was approved by AOU Board Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Fred and presented by Second Vice Chairman Mr. V. Marshall Sambolla.

AOU Board Chairman Attends Celebration Marking the 105th Anniversary of the Communist Party of China in Liberia

Dr. Emmanuel Fred, Board Chairman of AOU, attended the CPC’s 105th anniversary celebration in Liberia at the invitation of China’s local ambassador. The gathering united cross-sector representatives to mark China-Liberia friendship. AOU, an African open education platform, appreciates China’s experience in education, infrastructure and poverty alleviation. Dr. Fred stated the university will keep advancing international academic cooperation and youth development, boosting Africa’s global exchanges via education and innovation.

Africa Open University (AOU) Holds Board Meeting to Discuss Strategic Development and Priority Programs

On June 11, 2026, Africa Open University (AOU) held an online board meeting presided over by Secretary General David B. Kolleh, with opening remarks from Board Chairman Emmanuel Fred. Participants reviewed the university’s development orientation and listened to the 2026–2028 Three-Year Accelerated Action Plan proposed by Mr. Liwei Zheng, Executive Vice Chairman and Director of the International Cooperation Center. They deliberated on key priority programs covering digital learning resources, youth training networks, renewable energy training, local trainer cultivation and domestic & international educational partnerships. The university plans to optimize governance, digital platforms and global cooperation to deliver inclusive open education for African learners and youth.

Africa Open University Co-Convenes International Dialogue on the Digital Future of Cultural and Arts Education in Africa

Africa Open University (AOU) co-convened the international dialogue “UNESCO International Arts Education Week in Africa” during UNESCO Culture and Arts Education Week (25–31 May 2026) under the theme “Openness · Heritage · Innovation: The Digital Future of Cultural and Arts Education in Africa.” The event brought together scholars, educators, cultural practitioners, youth representatives, and institutional partners to discuss how Open Educational Resources, digital innovation, and international cooperation can support cultural and arts education in Africa. Speakers from Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, China, and other regions emphasized the importance of preserving African cultural heritage, strengthening youth participation, and using technology responsibly to support inclusive and sustainable education.

LAS and AOU Establish Strategic Cooperation to Explore a New Model of Open Education in Africa

Africa Open University (AOU) and the Liberia Academy of Sciences (LAS) have reached a strategic cooperation understanding to jointly support open learning, capacity development, scientific exchange, and educational innovation in Africa. The partnership will promote a practical, partnership-driven model of open education, beginning with Liberia and gradually expanding across the continent, with a focus on youth development, professional learning, scientific dialogue, digital education resources, and institutional capacity building. LAS will provide intellectual support and scientific guidance for AOU's long-term development, while AOU continues to build an inclusive platform for African learners, young professionals, researchers, and partner institutions. This cooperation marks an important step in AOU's mission to explore a new pathway for open education in Africa — one that is flexible, accessible, collaborative, and responsive to the needs of African societies.
