About the Event
Misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content are increasingly affecting governance, public trust, civic participation and institutional credibility across Africa. Digital platforms and emerging artificial intelligence technologies have made it easier to create, reproduce and circulate convincing but inaccurate or manipulated information.
This online event will bring together participants from across Africa and beyond to explore how misleading information is created, amplified and circulated through traditional media, digital platforms and emerging AI technologies.
The discussion will connect practical media experience with broader questions of information integrity, responsible communication, public accountability and the role of media and information literacy in strengthening African communities.
Key Areas of Discussion
The session will explore:
- How misinformation and disinformation affect governance, public trust and civic participation;
- How traditional media, digital platforms and social networks influence the circulation of information;
- The growing impact of AI-generated content, synthetic media and manipulated information;
- Practical approaches to evaluating sources, verifying claims and identifying questionable content;
- The responsibilities of journalists, educators, civil society organizations, public institutions and citizens;
- How media and information literacy can strengthen information resilience across African communities.
Featured Speaker
David Bashiel Kolleh
David Bashiel Kolleh brings professional experience from the media sector and will share practical perspectives on how information is produced, communicated and received by the public.
Drawing on his media experience, he will examine how misleading information can be created, amplified and circulated through traditional media, digital platforms and emerging artificial intelligence technologies. His presentation will also consider the responsibilities of media professionals, public institutions, educators, civil society organizations and citizens in building a more trustworthy information environment.
The presentation will be followed by a moderated discussion and an interactive question-and-answer session.

Why This Conversation Matters
Information resilience is not the responsibility of one profession or institution. It depends on the ability of people across society to access information, evaluate evidence, recognize manipulation and communicate responsibly.
The event contributes to the 2026 Global Media and Information Literacy Week theme:
“We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People.”
By creating a space for African perspectives and practical exchange, the organizers aim to encourage wider participation in strengthening information integrity, responsible public communication and media and information literacy across the continent.
