Africa Open University Joins the Greening Education Partnership

Africa Open University (AOU) has officially joined the Greening Education Partnership (GEP), a global community of practice working to advance climate action through education and help every learner become climate-ready.

Following the completion of the membership process, AOU received a formal welcome from the Greening Education Partnership Secretariat. As a member, AOU has been invited to access the GEP Membership Workspace, working-group resources, the GEP Global Tracker, capacity-building activities, meetings and opportunities for knowledge exchange with other members.

AOU is a Liberia-registered non-profit organization delivering non-degree open learning and capacity-building programmes. Its participation in the Partnership will initially focus on three areas aligned with its institutional role and developing programmes:

• Greening Curriculum, through accessible learning resources on climate education, renewable energy, green skills and sustainable development;
• Greening Teacher Training and Education Systems’ Capacities, through non-degree professional development for educators, facilitators and partner organizations; and
• Greening Communities, through open and lifelong learning activities supporting youth participation, community resilience and locally relevant climate action.

AOU plans to progressively integrate these priorities into relevant capacity-building activities and its developing Open Resource Library. It will also explore opportunities to organize online knowledge-sharing activities, support facilitator development and document practical experiences from community-oriented learning initiatives.

“Joining the Greening Education Partnership gives AOU a valuable platform for learning, collaboration and responsible contribution,” said Liwei Zheng, FRSA, Executive Vice Chairman and Director of the International Cooperation Center of Africa Open University. “Our priority is to translate this membership into practical and accessible non-degree learning opportunities that respond to the needs of African educators, young people and communities.”

As its engagement develops, AOU will participate in relevant GEP meetings and working-group activities, contribute evidence and practical experiences where appropriate, and share updates on activities that support the Partnership’s objectives.

AOU will use the official “Member of Greening Education Partnership” visual identity in accordance with the Partnership’s communication guidelines. The GEP visual identity is separate from the UNESCO visual identity.
